Peru State Earns Day One Win 79-69 over Central Baptist College

(Peru, Neb.) – On Friday, Nov. 19, the Peru State Men's Basketball team would win 79-69 on day one of the Heart-AMC Classic versus Central Baptist College (CBC).
 
With the win the 'Cats improved to 2-5 overall on the season while the Mustangs fell to 1-5 overall.
 
1st Half
 
At the 8:10 mark the Mustang go on the board first with a three pointer to lead 3-0 early in the first half. Peru State would cut the lead to one point after a made layup from Troy Houghton (Omaha) and would take the lead off a Henry Tanksley (Lincoln) made layup off the pass from Jibril Harris (Chicago, Ill.).
 
The 'Cats extended their lead to three points off the made layup from Dedoch Chan (Rochester, Minn.) as the score would be 6-3 with 16:08 remaining until intermission.
 
CBC would tie the game at ten at the 12:57 mark as the next possession the Bobcats take the lead off the Chan layup.
 
Peru State saw the lead extend to six points off a made layup from Man Man Baker (Aurora, Colo.).
 
The rest of the first half would be tight as the Bobcats would lead 35-28 after 20 minutes of basketball has been played.
 
2nd Half
 
Peru State led by nine points after a made layup from Tanksley as the 'Cats led 37-28 with 19:48 left in the game.
 
The Bobcats saw a 12-point lead after a made three from Donzell Johnson (Bloomington, Ill.) off the assist from Chan with score at 40-28 with 17:10 remaining in the game.
 
At the 13:33 mark Johnson made another three off the pass from Baker to make the score 48-32 in favor of the Bobcats.
 
Peru State would keep the game at the constant double digit lead the rest of the way and win their second game of the year 79-69.
 
Stats
 
The 'Cats shot 31-64 for 48.4% which included 9-23 for 39.1% from three. At the charity stripe the Bobcats made 8-16 for 50%.
 
Johnson led the way with 27 points on nine field goals which he went 8-11 on threes. Tanksley added 15 points while Harris had 11. The last Bobcat in double figures was Baker with 12.
 
Baker added nine rebounds while Skyler Wilson (Omaha) added seven boards.
 
Baker led the way with seven assists while Harris added three. Tanksley and Chan added two assists each.
 
Houghton, Tanksley, Chan, Wilson, Johnson each had one steal in the game.
 
Houghton added two blocks while Tanksley added one.
 
Career Milestones
 
Tanksley would join the 1,000-point club in the Peru State Basketball Program. He currently sits at 1,001 points in his career.
 
Upcoming Games
 
Peru State will be at home today on Nov. 20 for day two of the Heart-AMC Classic. The Bobcats will play Missouri Baptist University at 6 p.m.
 
On Tuesday, Nov. 23, the 'Cats will face conference foe Clarke University at 7:30 p.m.
