Culver-Stockton VB Sweeps the Bobcats

(Peru, Neb.) – On Tuesday, October 5, the Peru State Volleyball Team traveled to Canton, Mo., to face conference foe Culver-Stockton College. The Wildcats would come out with a 3-0 win against the Bobcats. C-SC improved to 7-12 overall and 3-5 in the Heart of America Athletic Conference.
 
Peru State fell to 3-20 overall and 1-8 in the conference.
 
The Bobcats would get the first set off with a kill from Dawson Sharman (Sidney) off the set from Hannia Rios (Toa Baja, P.R.). The Wildcats would tie the game back up at 1-1 before the Bobcats would take the lead right back off a kill from Sharman off the assist from Cassie Davis (Colorado Springs, Colo.) to lead 2-1.
 
Culver-Stockton would go on 3-0 run to take the lead 4-2 before Peru State would cut into that lead off the kill by Davis and off the set form Hanna Burianek (Lincoln) as the Wildcats would still lead 4-3. The game would be tied at 5-5 as Peru State would then take the lead after an attacking error on the Wildcats. The Bobcats would see a two-point lead 7-5 after a service ace from Rios. C-SC would be able to tie the game at ten.
 
The Wildcats would take the lead 11-10 and would never trail again as they would win set number one 25-19.
 
Peru State started off on the right track in set number two after a kill by Michelle Beer (Salem) off the set from Davis and a kill by Jamie Copenharve (Omaha) off the assist from Davis. The Bobcats were leading 2-0.
 
Peru State maintained the lead and after an attacking error the Wildcats would have a four-point lead at 9-5. Culver-Stockton would start to fight back as they would tie the game at 12-12. The Wildcats would score three straight points to lead 15-12 before a service error would stop the run and give the serve back to Peru State.
 
The game would be tight the rest of the way as the Bobcats would be able to tie the game at 19 all after a kill from Jaddy Duarte (Brasilia, Brazil).
 
Culver would take a 20-19 lead and would not give the lead back up as they would win the second set 25-21.
 
In set number three Peru State would score their first two points off errors on the Wildcats as the Bobcats would have the early lead in the set at 2-1. After Culver-Stockton would tie the game back up at 2-2, Peru State would get two straight points off a kill by Sharman off the set from Davis and a Burianek service ace to lead 4-2.
 
Culver would score two straight points to tie the game at 4-4 before Beer would break the tie from a kill off the assist Davis. Beer would extend the Bobcats lead to 6-4 off a service ace.
 
The Wildcats would go on a 6-1 run to take a 10-7 lead in the game. Culver would then go on an 8-4 run to extend their lead to 18-11. The Bobcats would go on a 9-5 run to get the game within striking distance at 20-23 in favor of Culver.
 
Culver would eventually win the third and final set 25-23.

Burianek led the game with two service aces while Cheyenne Birkle (Holden, Mo.) and Rios added one service ace each.
 
Duarte led the team with nine kills while Alexandra Chavarria (Hollister, Calif.) was second on the team with seven. Beer would add six kills of her own.
 
Davis led the team with 18 assists. Rios added 15 assists.
 
Birkle, Rios, and Alyssa Bock (Plattsmouth) added nine digs each. Burianek added eight digs while Sharman finished with seven.
 
Duarte added three block assists while Sharman finished with two block assists.
 
Career Update
 
Davis has surpassed 1,000 assists for her career. Davis sits at 1,005 assists and counting in her volleyball career at Peru State College.
 
Upcoming Games
 
Peru State will continue their road trip as they are heading to Springfield, Mo., to take on Evangel University Valor at 2 p.m. on Saturday. The Valor are 11-9 overall and 3-5 in the conference.
