Bellevue Bruins Win 71-59 over the Bobcats

(Peru, Neb.) – On Tuesday, October 26, Peru State College travel to Bellevue, Neb., to take on the Bellevue Bruins. The Bruins would come out victorious winning 71-59 and improving to 1-0 on the year.
 
Peru State fell to 0-2 to start the 2021-22 season.
 
1st Quarter
 
Peru State started the game with three-pointer from Maria Alcantara (Recife, Brazil) off the pass from Maddy Duncan (Hamburg, Iowa). The Bobcats would extend the lead off a Hailey Ingram (Omaha) free throw as the 'Cats would lead 4-0 with 9:09 left in the quarter.
 
The Bruins would go on a 9-0 run to take the lead 9-4 over a five-minute stretch as Alcantara would stop the run with a two pointer off the assist from Ingram.
 
The rest of the quarter was close as the Bobcats would edge out the Bruins to lead 15-13 after the first ten minutes of play.
 
2nd Quarter
 
Bellevue would get the first two points of the quarter off a layup to tie the game at 15 with 8:55 remaining. The lead would go right back to the 'Cats as Ingram made a three off the pass from Lycia Peevy (Paris, Ark.) as the score would be 18-15 in favor of Peru State.
 
Later in the second quarter, the Bobcats would see the lead extend off a Natasha Deal (Winnebago) two pointer off the assist from Alcantara as the 'Cats would lead 25-20. Bellevue would end the first half on a 9-3 run to take the lead going into half time 29-28.
 
3rd Quarter
 
Peru State would get a three pointer to fall from Duncan as the lead would change hands once again as they led 31-29. Peevy would get another Bobcat trey to go as the lead would grow to five at 34-29 with just under eight minutes to go in the quarter.
 
The Bruins would go on a 7-0 run to take a 36-34 lead before a two from Samantha Stewart (Mount Ayr, Iowa) tied the game up at 36 all with 5:02 remaining.
 
The Bruins would end the quarter on a 14-6 run to take an eight-point lead heading into the final ten minutes of the game.
 
4th Quarter
 
The Bobcats would cut into the lead with two Julie Miller (Easton, Kan.) free throws as the lead was cut to six with 9:31 left.
 
The Bruins would get the lead to double-digits as they lead 54-44 with 6:55 remaining in the game.
 
Peru State would not be able to make a rally as they would fall for the second time this season, this time on the road to Bellevue 71-59.
 
Stats
 
Peru State would shoot 20-60 for 33.3% which included 9-28 from three for 32.1%. The 'Cats were 10-15 from the free throw line for 66.7%.
 
Duncan had a game-high 17 points while the only other Bobcat to reach double-figures would be Peevy as she had ten.
 
Peevy had a game-high nine assists while Duncan, Deal, and Libby Baumert (Plattsmouth) would each add four assists.
 
Peevy also tied for game-high honors with nine rebounds and was just one short of a triple-double as she finished with ten points, nine rebounds, and nine assists. Duncan, Deal, and Baumert each added three boards.
 
Ingram, Duncan, Peevy, and Deal would each grab one steal in the contest.
 
Peevy blocked two shots for the 'Cats.
 
Upcoming Game
 
Peru State will be playing an exhibition game on Thursday, October 28, versus NCAA DII Missouri Western University in St. Joseph, Mo. Tip-off for the game is schedule for 6 p.m.
 
The Bobcats will be back on the road Monday, November 1, as they travel to Hastings, Neb. to play Hastings College which is scheduled for a 6 p.m. tip-off.
