(Peru, Neb.) – The Morningside Mustangs volleyball team swept the visiting Peru State team Tuesday night in Sioux City, Iowa. The Mustangs won the match 25-13, 25-15, 25-17 in non-conference play.

Morningside improved to 10-9 on the season. Peru State fell to 2-14.

Morningside scored the first point and then gave Peru State a point on a service error. After the Mustangs regained the lead with a kill,
Sidney Peck (Manitoba, Canada) put down a kill from
Cassie Davis (Colorado Springs) to tie it at 2. The Mustangs would go out to a 5-2 lead, but Peru State would battle back and eventually tie it at 6 after
Mattie Nichols (Auburn) had a pair of service aces. That would be the last time the set would be tied as Morningside would score the next three points and eventually pulled away for the 25-13 set win.

The Mustangs started the second set on a 3-0 run before
Dawson Sharman (Sidney) got a kill off an assist from Davis. Morningside would stretch the lead to 13 at 20-7 and 22-9 before the Bobcats would get a number of points off of Mustangs errors to make the score more respectable.

Morningside started the third set on a 7-1 run before Peck got a kill off an assist from Davis. Again, the Mustangs would build a large lead of 19-8 before Peru State managed to put together several runs to get within six at 22-16 before falling.

The Mustangs outhit the Bobcats .200 to -.028. Peru State did have six service aces, but finished with seven errors. Morningside had five service aces against six errors.

Peru State will travel to Lamoni, Iowa, Thursday night to face Graceland in the final match of the year for both teams. The Yellowjackets are 3-10 on the season and 2-9 in the Heart of America Athletic Conference North Division. Game time is 7 p.m.
