(Peru, Neb.) – In a battle of the 'Cats, the Peru State Bobcats picked up their first Heart of America Athletic Conference (Heart) North Division win of the season.

The Bobcats swept the visiting Wildcats of Culver-Stockton C-SC) (Mo.) 25-22, 25-22, 25-16 Friday afternoon in the Al Wheeler Activity Center on the campus of Peru State.

Peru State improved to 2-12 on the season and 1-9 in the Heart North. Culver-Stockton fell to 2-10 on the year and 2-7 in conference action.

First Set Action
Cassie Davis started the match
with an ace and finished with
three on the day

Cassie Davis (Colorado Springs) served up an ace to start the set and then followed with a setter dump to put the Bobcats up 2-0. After that, Peru State never trailed in the set although the Wildcats would keep it close.
Â
The Bobcats' largest lead would come at 20-13 after a Wildcat attack error. After that point, C-SC would score five straight points to force a Bobcat timeout. After the break, Davis would set up
Pyper Roseberry (LaVista) for a kill to stop the run. The teams would basically trade points after that with
Tyra Mollhoff (Lincoln) getting a kill from
Hannia Rios (Toa Baja, P.R.) for the final set point.

Second Set Action

The second set was tighter throughout as there were ten ties and four lead changes. Peru State again got on the board first, this time with a kill from Mollhoff coming off an assist from Rios. A double hit was called on the Wildcats to put the score at 2-0 Peru State. The Wildcats would eventually tie it at 4 and then the score would be tied at 5, 6, and 9.

C-SC would then take their largest lead by scoring four straight points to make it 13-9. Peru State would get three points to pull back within one only to see the Wildcats again stretch their lead back to four at 16-12.

Peru State would go on a seven-point run which started with an attack error by the Wildcats. After C-SC stopped the run, Roseberry and Davis hooked up to put the score at 21-17. A block by Mollhoff and
Ofaloto Moungaafi (West Valley City, Utah) gave the Bobcats a five-point lead. The Wildcats still clawed back by scoring three points before Davis had another setter dump.

Later, a Wildcat error gave Peru State the second set win.

Third Set Action
Â
Again the third set was tight for the early part as there were seven ties. It was as tight as 10-8 before the Bobcats started to pull away. Peru State jumped to a 15-8 lead before the Wildcats scored four points. Once again, Davis came through with a kill to make it 16-12.
Cheyenne Birkle (Holden, Mo.) served up an ace to extend Peru State's lead. The Bobcats would go on for the sweep and its first conference win.

kills and hit .450 in the win
Peru State out-hit the Wildcats .179 to .080 while finishing with 37 kills – three more than C-SC.

The Bobcats had eight service aces, but seven errors while the Wildcats had five service aces and one error.

Culver-Stockton did finish with more digs at 80 – six more than the Bobcats.

Mollhoff and Roseberry each finished with nine kills with Mollhoff having one of her highest-hitting percentages of her career as she hit .450.
Jaddy Duarte (Brasilia, Brazil) added five kills.

Davis led the team with 17 kills while Rios finished with 12. Arianna Waschowski
(Bellevue) and Davis each had three service aces while Birkle finished with two.

Birkle led the team with 20 digs while Waschowski contributed 14.
Mattie Nichols (Auburn) finished with 11 digs.

Duarte had one solo block and one block assist. Moungaafi added three block assists while Roseberry had two block assists. Mollhoff and Jamie Copenharve
(Omaha) each had one block assist.

Upcoming Contests

The Bobcats have three contests remaining. Their final home game will be Tuesday against league-leading Grand View (Iowa). The teams will have a junior varsity contest beginning at 5 p.m. with a varsity match beginning at 7 p.m. The Vikings are 10-0 overall and are 8-0 in the Heart North.

Peru State will then have two road contests the following week. The Bobcats will head to Sioux City, Iowa, to play a non-conference match with Morningside on Tuesday, Nov. 10. Then, on Thursday, Nov. 12, the 'Cats will finish the year with a Heart North match-up with Graceland in Lamoni, Iowa.
