(Peru, Neb.) – After splitting a pair of matches on Friday, the Peru State volleyball team dropped two Saturday in the Evangel University Classic in Springfield, Mo.

The Bobcats fell for the second weekend in a row to 20
th-ranked Bellevue 27-25, 25-16, 25-17 and then later were defeated by Tabor (Kan.), a team they beat last weekend. The Bluejays won 18-25, 25-20, 25-12, 25-21.

Peru State fell to 4-7 with the losses while Bellevue improved to 10-3 and Tabor improved to 6-4. Both Bellevue and Tabor won each of their four matches in the Evangel tournament.

The Bruins hit very well against Peru State as they finished with a .303 hitting percentage while holding Peru State to a .136 average.

No Bobcats were in double digits with kills.
Claire Cudney (Marysville, Kan.) and
Alex Bowman (Thousand Oaks, Calif.) each finished with six kills while
Meg Grose (Peoria, Ariz.) and
Kira Shapiro (Omaha) each added five kills.

Grose was the team's leading setter finishing with 19 assists and just missed a double-double as she had nine digs. She also led the team with two service aces while
Cristina Viera (Montevideo, Uruguay) added one service ace.

Viera led the team with 16 digs while
Sydney Stevelinck (Lyons, Colo.) added ten and
Taylor Hogan (Pueblo, Colo.) added nine.

Nadja Janjevic (Podgorica, Montenegro) had a match-high four solo blocks and one block assist. Bowman and
Hannah Sexton (Beatrice) each added two block assists while Shapiro added one.

Laurie Schroeder noted that the team's defense faltered in the loss to Tabor. In addition, Peru State was held under .100 hitting percentage as they finished at .086.

Shapiro was a bright spot hitting-wise as she finished with 16 kills and hit .300. Janjevic had seven kills and hit .350 while Cudney added five kills.

Grose led the team with 18 assists while
Brooke Rudebusch (Moorpark, Calif.) added 16.

Peru State out-served the Bluejays as they finished with eight service aces – four of those coming from Viera while Rudebusch contributed three. Hogan added the other service ace.

Viera finished with 30 digs while
Alaya Roberts (Cibolo, Texas) added 12. Grose and Shapiro each added 11 digs so both finished with double-doubles in the match. Hogan added eight digs.

The Bobcats enter a huge stretch of Heart of America Athletic Conference (Heart) matches as they will play ten straight Heart opponents.

They will start Tuesday night at home at 7 p.m. against Graceland (Iowa). The Yellowjackets are 5-6 overall and are 0-2 in conference play.

On Friday, Peru State will travel to Canton, Mo., to take on Culver-Stockton at 5 p.m. The Wildcats are 5-8 overall and 0-2 in the Heart.
