(Peru, Neb.) – The Bobcat volleyball team won their sixth-straight match in a sweep over the host Benedictine Ravens in Atchison, Kan., Tuesday night.
Peru State swept Benedictine 25-20, 25-18, 25-19 to improve to 22-3 on the season and 5-0 in the Heart of America Athletic Conference (Heart). The Ravens fell to 6-10 overall and 2-2 in the Heart.

A kill by
Yorgelys Jaspe (San Carlos, Venezuela) on an assist from
Gianna Gangi (Simi Valley, Calif.) started the match giving Peru State the lead. The Ravens kept the set close as it was tied at 6-6 before
Jhessica Martins (Uberlandia, Brazil) put down a kill from
Meg Grose (Peoria, Ariz.) to take the lead for good in the set. An attack error by the Ravens gave Peru State the 25-20 first set win.
Second Set Action
The Bobcats never trailed in the second set win.
Nadja Janjevic (Podgorica, Montenegro) put down an overpass to start the set. At one point, the 'Cats led 19-6. Once again, a Benedictine attack error ended the set with the Bobcats winning 25-18.
Third Set Action
This was the only set that the Ravens did have a lead. Benedictine led early 4-2 and later 10-9 before
Rian Kirby (Gretna) got a kill on an assist from Grose to tie it. The Ravens would again have it tied at 12-12, but a Janjevic/Grose combination put Peru State ahead for good in the set. Jaspe would get the final point with a kill on an assist from
Brooke Rudebusch (Moorpark, Calif.).

Peru State out-hit Benedictine .313 compared to .171.
Jaspe tied for game-high honors with ten kills. Martins added nine kills while hitting .318. Janjevic and
Kira Shapiro (Omaha) each had eight kills while hitting .667 and .412 respectively.
Alex Bowman (Thousand Oaks, Calif.) added five kills and also hit .667.
Rudebusch had 20 assists while Grose added 13.

Cristina Viera (Montevideo, Uruguay) each had two service aces while Grose added one.
Viera had a game-high 28 digs with Jaspe adding eight. Rudebusch finished with seven while Gangi added six.
The 'Cats did not have any solo blocks but had ten block assists. Janjevic led the team with four while Jaspe and Martins each had two. Bowman and Kirby were each credited with one block assist.
Upcoming Matches
Peru State will host two games this weekend as part of Homecoming activities. On Friday night, Heart newcomer Mount Mercy from Cedar Rapids, Iowa, will be the opponent. The Mustangs are currently 13-4 on the season and have yet to play a Heart match. Game time is scheduled for 7 p.m.
Saturday, after the football game, the 'Cats will host the other Heart newcomer, Clarke from Dubuque, Iowa. The Crusaders are presently 14-4 and like Mount Mercy, have not played a Heart opponent. However, Clarke will be at Benedictine Friday night before traveling to Peru State. Game time is scheduled for 5 p.m., but the start time will be contingent upon the conclusion of the football game.
Next week, Peru State will host two more home matches. On Tuesday, the Avila University Eagles will be in the Al Wheeler Activity Center at 7 p.m. The Eagles are currently 9-9 on the season and are 0-3 in the Heart.
On Thursday, with a rare noon start time, Peru State will host Evangel University in its Middle School Day. The Crusaders are 14-7 on the year and are 2-1 in the Heart.
