(Peru, Neb.) – The Peru State volleyball team opened the Heart of America Athletic Conference with a win over Baker in Baldwin City, Kan., Tuesday night.

The Bobcats won in four sets. The Wildcats took the first set 25-22 while the Peru 'Cats came back to win 25-15, 25-14, 25-17. Peru State is now 16-2 overall and 1-0 in the Heart. Baker fell to 2-12 and 0-1 in conference play.

Yorgelys Jaspe (San Carlos, Venezuela) had a game-high 13 kills while hitting .429 against the Wildcats.
Kira Shapiro (Omaha) added ten kills.
Jhessica Martins (Uberlandia, Brazil) and
Nadja Janjevic (Podgoria, Montenegro) each added nine kills with Janjevic finishing with an outstanding .643 kill percentage.

Brooke Rudebusch (Moorpark, Calif.) had a match-high 42 assists.

Both teams had excellent service reception as Peru State only had three service aces while Baker did not have any.
Samantha Hinrichs (Ankeny, Iowa), Janjevic, and Jaspe each had one ace.

Cristina Viera (Montevideo, Uruguay) had a game-high 33 digs while Jaspe finished the night with a double-double as she added 23 digs. Shapiro just missed a double-double as she added nine digs.
Gianna Gangi (Simi Valley, Calif.) finished with eight digs while Rudebusch contributed seven.

Shapiro was credited with the lone solo block for Peru State. Shapiro, Janjevic, and
Alex Bowman (Thousand Oaks, Calif.) each had two block assists while Jaspe and Martins each added one block assist.

Peru State will play three more contests this week. On Friday, they will travel to Sioux City, Iowa, to face the Briar Cliff Chargers. Briar Cliff is presently 6-4 on the season and have played some tough opponents. Game time is 7 p.m.

On Saturday, the Bobcats will be in Omaha to participate in a tri-match at Grace University. At 3 p.m., the 'Cats will face Presentation (S.D.). Peru State and the Saints have already tangled twice this season with the Bobcats sweeping both times. Currently, Presentation is 3-8 on the year. Then, at 5 p.m., the Bobcats will take on the host Royals. Grace is presently 4-7 having defeated Presentation in their last outing.

After the weekend, the Bobcats are finally at home again. On Tuesday, Sept. 20, Peru State will host Heart foe Grand View (Iowa) at 7 p.m. The Vikings, now 7-2 after winning their Heart opener over Culver-Stockton (Mo.), are currently ninth in the NAIA Coaches' Top 25 Poll.
