Bobcat VB Falls to Concordia, Sweeps Friends

(Peru, Neb.) – After a disappointing loss at the hands of the hosts, Concordia University, the Peru State volleyball team rebounded with a straight-set sweep of Friends University on Saturday in Seward.
 
The 'Cats fell to the Bulldogs, 25-8, 25-14, and 25-18 as they never really got untracked in the opening game in the Concordia Triangular.

Then, Peru State turned around to bounce the Falcons from Friends University 25-18, 25-22, and 25-17.
 
With the split, the Bobcats are now 7-5 on the season.

Lea Boras (Makarska, Croatia) led Peru State with nine kills in the loss to the Bulldogs as the Bobcats managed to only hit .077 as a team.  Bre Brandt (Papillion) added five kills.
 
Courtney Jurek (Bellevue) provided 14 assists for the 'Cats.
 
Hope Harsh (Cassoday, Kan.) had the one service ace for Peru State, a season-low output for the team.
 
Mallory Hull (Morse Bluff) led the team with nine digs while Jordyn Lukasiewicz (Farwell) added eight.  Shannon Liewer (Imperial) had seven digs.
 
Nicole Soifua (West Point, Utah) had the lone solo block with Alyssa Martin (Grand Island), Boras, Alex Mitchell (Fort Worth, Texas), and Carrie Lierz (Holton, Kan.) each adding one block assist.

While the hitting percentage just more than double than the opening game, the Bobcats led almost the entire way in each set against the Falcons.
 
Lierz finished with 17 kills while hitting .300 to lead Peru State in hitting.  Cristal Quinonez (Anthony, N.M.) added ten kills with Brandt adding nine.
 
Jurek finished with 36 assists in the win.

Jurek, Lukasiewicz, and Harsh each had two service aces.
 
Hull and Liewer led the team defensively with 20 and 12 digs respectively.  Jurek just missed a double-double as she added nine digs.
 
The Bobcats did not have a solo block but Soifua and Lierz each had two block assists.

Upcoming Games
 
Peru State is on the road on Tuesday to take on Baker University in Baldwin City, Kan., in a Heart of America Athletic Conference (HAAC) game.  The 'Cats and the 9-4 Wildcats will tangle at 7 p.m.
 
This coming Friday and Saturday, the Bobcats will host their second tournament of the season with the AIB College of Business (Iowa), Haskell Indian Nations University (Kan.), and Stephens College (Mo.) visiting the Al Wheeler Activity Center.
 
On Friday, AIB will face Haskell at 5 p.m.  At 7 p.m., Peru State will take on Stephens College.  Stephens is presently 4-3.
 
Then, on Saturday, Peru State will open the day with a game against AIB at 10 a.m.  Currently, the Eagles are 4-8 on the season.  Stephens will face Haskell at noon and that game will be followed by AIB against Stephens.  The final game of the day, currently scheduled for 4 p.m. will be Haskell against Peru State.  The Fighting Indians are presently 4-9 on the season.
