(Peru, Neb.) – While some may have been football on a Sunday afternoon, those who gathered in the Al Wheeler Activity Center at Peru State saw the Bobcat volleyball team earn their third straight sweep. The 'Cats took down the visiting Eagles from Central Methodist University 25-12, 25-22, 25-21.
With the win, Peru State improves to 18-11 overall on the season and 2-4 in the Heart of America Athletic Conference. The Eagles fell to 8-15 overall and 1-5 in conference play.
Game Action The Bobcats jumped to an early 5-2 lead in the first set when
Rian Kirby (Gretna) put down a kill on an assist from
Courtney Jurek (Bellevue). Central Methodist cut the lead to one at 7-6, but that would be the closest they would be in the first set. Peru State cruised the rest of the first set as
Lea Boras (Makarska, Croatia) ended it with a kill on an assist from
Meg Grose (Peoria, Ariz.) to win 25-12.

Meg Grose (8) look onThe second set was much closer as Central Methodist led 9-7 before another Boras from Grose combination made it 9-8. After being tied at 10-10,
Rachael West (El Dorado, Kan.) put down a kill on an assist from Jurek. Peru State went to a 14-10 lead, but the Eagles closed again within one at 15-14 before the 'Cats eventually pulled away. A timely Peru State timeout when leading 24-22 resulted in an attack error by the Eagles giving the Bobcats a 25-22 set win.
Meg Grose led the team
with 15 assists Central Methodist jumped to an 8-2 lead in the third set. A kill by Jurek stopped the run. Eventually, the Bobcats tied the game at 12-12 and then went ahead on an attack error by the Eagles. The set was tied at 14, 15, 15, 18, 19, and 20, before another attack error by Central Methodist put Peru State up for good at 21-20. A
Bre Brandt (Papillion) kill on an overpass ended the set at 25-21 and gave the 'Cats the win.
Statistics Boras had 12 kills on just 21 swings and hit .524 in the win. Kirby added nine kills with Brandt adding six. West finished with five kills.
Mallory Hull gets one of her
game-high 19 digs Grose was the top setter with 15 assists while Jurek adding 11 assists.
Hope Harsh (Cassoday, Kan.) and Kirby each had two service aces with Jurek adding one.
Mallory Hull (Morse Bluff) led the Bobcats with 19 digs with Grose adding nine. Jurek finished with seven while Brandt and
Jordyn Lukasiewicz (Farwell) each contributed six digs.
Nicole Soifua (West Point, Utah), Jennifer Ostrowski (Kankakee, Ill.), and Kirby each had two block assists while West and Boras were each credited with one block assist.
CENTRAL METHODIST BOX SCORE Upcoming Games Peru State will be participating in a tri-match hosted by Friends University in Wichita, Kan., on Saturday, Oct. 18. The Bobcats will be facing opponents from the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference (KCAC) as they play Sterling College at 3 p.m. and then play the hosts at 5 p.m. Currently, the Warriors are 14-12 overall while the Falcons are 17-11. Earlier in the season, the Bobcats swept Friends in a tri-match at Concordia University.
Next Tuesday, Oct. 21, Peru State will be in Atchison, Kan., to face Heart opponent Benedictine College at 7 p.m. Currently, the Ravens are 14-10 overall and 3-2 in conference play.
