Tyler Audsley joined Benedictine teammates Andrew Jones and Zach Keenan as the first Heart of America Athletic Conference Offensive, Defensive and Special Teams Players of the Week for the 2013 season, respectively, on Monday afternoon.
With an injury to returning starter
Bo Shepard (Gretna) forcing Audsley over to the offensive side of the ball with just one week to prepare, the sophomore looked like a veteran in his first collegiate start. A native of (
Prescott Valley, Ariz.), Audsley accounted for 208 total yards and four touchdowns, including three on the ground. He carried 14 times for 148 yards while completing 6-of-9 passes for 60 yards in leading the Bobcats to a 56-21 win over Dakota State (S.D.).
Audsley's first score came on a 70-yard run as he was able to get to the outside and outran the Dakota State defenders with 6:29 left in the first half.
After a Bobcat interception in the second quarter, Audsley and his teammates took advantage of the situation. On the fourth play of the drive, Audsley found teammate
Erik Osborne (Pawnee City) for a four-yard touchdown pass. Peru State led 21-0 with 4:25 left in the second quarter.
His second rushing touchdown came in the second quarter when he ran a quarterback keeper for two yards with 2:26 left in the first half, putting Peru State up 28-0 at that point.
In the second half, Audsley set up his scoring possibility after going 61 yards from scrimmage on the first play of the half, only to get tackled at the four-yard line. Two plays later, Audsley went into the end zone with a three-yard touchdown, putting the 'Cats up 35-0.
The NAIA weekly awards will be handed out each Monday through the end of the regular season with each winner on the conference level representing the conference for those honors.
