(Peru, Neb.) – The MidAmerica Nazarene University (MNU) Pioneers were still stinging from just their second loss of the season and took it out on the visiting Peru State Bobcat volleyball team on Saturday in Olathe, Kan.
The Pioneers swept Peru State 25-10, 25-8, 25-16 to move to 21-2 overall and still have a perfect mark in the Heart of America Athletic Conference (HAAC) at 7-0. The Bobcats fell to 2-4 in the HAAC, putting them in a tie for seventh, and are now 19-12 overall.
Game Statistics
The Bobcats were held to a .000 hitting percentage as they had just 16 kills and 16 errors in their 68 attempts. MNU finished the game hitting .414.
Sarah Mertens
(Lincoln) and
Rachael West (El Dorado, Kan.) each had four kills to lead Peru State.
Carrie Lierz (Holton, Kan.) and
Lindsey Nelson (Granite Bay, Calif.) each added three kills.
Hope Harsh (Cassoday, Kan.) and
Courtney Jurek (Bellevue) each had six assists. Jurek finished with the lone service ace for Peru State.
Playing without their normal libero,
Jordyn Lukasiewicz (Farwell) led the team with nine digs while
Bre Brandt (Papillion) added six and Jurek finished with five.
Brittany Peterson (Orem, Utah) and Lierz each had two block assists while Brandt and
Madison Sutton (Gretna) each had one block assist.
Upcoming Matches
The Bobcats have just three remaining regular season matches left. On Tuesday, Peru State hosts Graceland University beginning at 7 p.m. in the AWAC. Graceland is currently 19-7 on the year and 4-3 in the HAAC. There will be a special presentation honoring YellowJacket Kelsi Martin and Peru State football player Mitch Boshart prior to the game. The pair was named the NAIA's A.O. Duer Award winners, as well as, the HAAC's Champions of Character winners last year.
Then, on Friday, Peru State will travel to Canton, Mo., to face the Culver-Stockton Wildcats. Presently, the Wildcats are 20-9 and will face Missouri Valley College before hosting the Bobcats. The Bobcats and Wildcats are currently tied at 2-4 in the HAAC.
Finally, on Tuesday, Nov. 5, Peru State will host Benedictine College at 7 p.m. As of now, the Ravens are 10-18 overall and 3-4 in the HAAC, just one-half game ahead of Peru State.
