Bobcat VB Sweeps Triangular

(Peru, Neb.) – After sweeping a pair of non-conference victories in Omaha on Tuesday night, the Peru State Bobcat volleyball team improved to 17-10 for the season.

The 'Cats first topped the Waldorf College Vikings 25-16, 25-21, 25-22 and then defeated the hosts, the College of St. Mary Flames 25-9, 25-14, 25-23.

The team finished with an excellent hitting percentage as they had 40 kills on 98 swings with only seven errors while hitting .337.

Bre Brandt (Papillion) had 12 kills on 22 attacks with one error to hit an outstanding .500. Brittany Peterson (Orem, Utah) added nine kills on 14 swings with only one error to hit .571. Rachael West (El Dorado, Kan.) contributed six kills while Carrie Lierz (Holton, Kan.) adding five.

Courtney Jurek (Bellevue) led the setting efforts with 20 assists while Hope Harsh (Cassoday, Kan.) added 11.

Harsh and Angie Bowers (Alda) each had two service aces and Jurek had one.

Mallory Hull (Morse Bluff) was a defensive machine as she had 26 digs against the Vikings. Brandt added ten to finish the game with a double double.

Sarah Mertens (Lincoln) led the team with two solo blocks and had four block assists. Peterson had the other solo block. Brandt added three block assists with Lindsey Nelson (Granite Bay, Calif.) adding the final one.

College of St. Mary Match

While the team hit very well against Waldorf, the Bobcats actually hit better against the Flames as they had 47 kills on 88 swings with 11 errors for an outstanding .409 hitting percentage.

Brandt led the team again with 14 kills while hitting .400. Peterson was a terror at the net with ten kills on 14 attempts and only one error to finish hitting .643. Lierz added seven kills and hit a .353 clip with Nelson contributing six kills and hitting .400.

Jurek had her second 20-assist performance on the night while Harsh added 17.

Jordyn Lukasiewicz (Farwell) and Harsh each had three service aces to lead the team. Bowers and Paige Young (Gretna) each added one ace.

Hull had ten digs with Brandt just missing a double double as she finished with nine digs. Lukasiewicz added six.

Peterson led the blocking efforts with two block assists with Mertens, Nelson, Brandt, and Lierz each adding one.

Upcoming Matches

The Bobcats will be at NCAA DII Wayne State College tonight with the game beginning at 7 p.m. For the 17th-ranked Wildcats, this will be a regular season game, but it will be an exhibition for Peru State.

This weekend, it will be Senior Day/Parents Day at Peru State on Saturday, Oct. 19.

First, the Bobcats will take on Heart of America Athletic Conference opponent Missouri Valley College at 2 p.m. Then the Vikings will face AIB College (Iowa) at 4 p.m. At 6 p.m., Peru State will take on AIB. Prior to the 6 p.m. match, the Bobcats will honor their parents and the two seniors – Brittany Peterson (Orem, Utah) and Paige Riza (Ravenna, Texas).
