Bobcat Volleyball Falls to Culver-Stockton

(Peru, Neb.) – The Peru State College (PSC) Bobcat volleyball team suffered a disappointing Homecoming day loss at the hands of the visiting Culver-Stockton College (CSC) Wildcats.
 
The Wildcats took the Heart of America Athletic Conference (HAAC) victory by defeating Peru State 25-17, 23-25, 25-22, 29-27.  With the win, Culver-Stockton improved to 8-11 on the season and 2-3 in the HAAC.  The Bobcats fall to 5-19 overall and are still searching for their first conference win, as they are 0-4.

Tara Gonzalez (Lincoln) and Carrie Lierz (Holton, Kan.) led the Bobcat hitters with 12 and 11 kills respectively.  Gonzalez hit a respectable .296 getting her 12 kills on 27 swings with only four errors.  Alicia Petak (Omaha) had seven kills while Brittany Peterson (Orem, Utah) and Lindsey Nelson (Granite Bay, Calif.) each had six.
 
Courtney Jurek (Bellevue) and Paige Riza (Ravenna, Texas) had 26 and 14 assists respectively.  Jurek finished the game with a double-double as she added ten digs.  Jurek also had one service ace.
 
Emily Maresh (Central City) had 21 digs to lead the team defensively.  Maresh also added two service aces.  Mallory Hull (Morse Bluff) had nine digs while Becky Boshart (Wood River) and Lierz each added eight.
 
Gonzalez had four block assists while Peterson had three.  Petak finished with two block assists and Lierz added one.

Upcoming Games
 
This Wednesday, Oct. 3, Peru State will travel to Omaha to face the Grace University Royals in a non-conference game beginning at 7 p.m. 
 
Two more home games will also take place the first week of October as the Bobcats will host HAAC foe, Avila University at 6 p.m. on Friday.  The Eagles are currently 12-8 on the year and 3-2 in the HAAC.
 
At 11 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 6, prior to the football game, the Bobcats will host Manhattan Christian College in the AWAC.
 
The following Monday, the 'Cats will travel to Baldwin City, Kan., to play HAAC foe Baker University at 7 p.m.
