Bobcats Top CCC and Grace in VB Action

(Peru, Neb.) – Playing in their first home competition of the year, the Peru State College (PSC) Bobcat volleyball team won both games in triangular action.
 
The Bobcats defeated Central Christian College 3-0 and Grace University 3-1.  Grace defeated Central Christian 3-0 in the other game on Wednesday evening.
 
With the win, Peru State improved to 4-14 on the season.
 
Central Christian Action
 
The Bobcats posted their highest hitting percentage and had the most service aces of the year in a game in the sweep over Central Christian.  Peru State won 25-5, 25-18, 25-7.
Brittany Peterson and Paige Riza
 PSC hit at a .408 clip, which is outstanding, as you compare the hitting percentage as to a batting average.  The Bobcats had 34 kills in 71 attempts with only five errors.
 
Leading PSC in hitting was Brittany Peterson (Orem, Utah) with seven kills and a .556 hitting percentage.  Lindsay Nelson (Granite Bay, Calif.) had six kills while hitting .429.  Adding five kills each were Carrie Lierz (Holton, Kan.) and Alicia Petak (Omaha).
 
Paige Riza (Ravenna, Texas) and Courtney Jurek (Bellevue) had 12 and 11 assists respectively while splitting time as setters in the Bobcats' 6-2 offense.
 
Angie Bowers (Wood River) and Emily Maresh (Central City) had five and four service aces respectively.  Katlyn Donovan (Greeley) and Lierz each had one in the team's season-high total of 11.
 
Maresh was the only Bobcat in double digits for digs with 18.  Becky Boshart (Wood River) added eight digs.
 
Nelson had the lone solo block, but the Bobcats did account for 12 block assists.  Peterson had four of them while Tara Gonzalez (Lincoln), Riza and Petak each added two.

Grace University Action
 
Lierz led the 'Cats with 14 kills on 28 swings with only three errors to hit .393 against the Royals.  Peterson and Nelson each had 12 kills and hit .450 and .429 respectively.  Gonzalez added seven kills in the win.
 
Riza and Jurek again led the setting with 21 and 19 assists respectively.  Jurek added one service ace.
Emily Maresh
 
Maresh had a season-high seven service aces while Donavan also had a season-high of three ace serves as PSC matched their previous season-high of 11 service aces which they had set against Central Christian.
 
Maresh also led the team in digs with 14 while Boshart was also in double figures with 11. 
 
Peterson collected the lone solo block and also had four block assists.  Gonzalez and Riza each had two block assists.

Upcoming Action
 
On Friday and Saturday, Sept. 21 and 22, Peru State will participate in the LaQuinta Inn Tournament hosted by Kansas Wesleyan University in Salina, Kan.  On Friday, the Bobcats will face the University of St. Mary (Kan.) at noon and then will take on McPherson College at 4 p.m.  Then, on Saturday, the 'Cats will meet Friends University at 9 a.m. and will finish the tournament against Bethel College (Kan.) at 3 p.m.
 
Two more home matches will follow with PSC hosting MidAmerica Nazarene University at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 25.  Then, on Saturday, Sept. 29, the 'Cats will take on Culver-Stockton College at 1 p.m.  The 29th is Homecoming for Peru State with the football game to be played at 2 p.m.
