(Peru, Neb.) - Peru State DB
Garret Campbell joined Baker teammates Dillon Baxter and Andre Jolly as the Heart of America Athletic Conference (HAAC) Special Teams, Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week, respectively, on Monday afternoon.
In the most exciting game of the weekend, Campbell turned in one of the most important individual plays for Peru State in a 31-24 overtime victory over Avila. A junior from
Santee, Calif., Campbell picked up his second weekly award of the campaign after a 66-yard kickoff return that set up a game-tying field goal at the end of regulation. He also recorded a pair of tackles from his defensive position.
In addition, Campbell had two tackles in the season-ending win.
For Campbell, it was his second HAAC special team recognition for 2012. Campbell had missed a couple of games prior to Saturday's game against Avila.
At the end of the regular season, Campbell ranks 16th in the NAIA in total kickoff return yards (530) and 36th in kickoff return yards per attempt (22.1).
In the HAAC at season end, Campbell was second in total kickoff return yards and seventh in kickoff returns per attempt.
