(Peru, Neb.) – In their first ever Heart of America Athletic Conference (HAAC) action, the Peru State College (PSC) Bobcats came up just short of a win as they fell to the visiting Graceland University (GU) Yellowjackets. Graceland topped PSC 25-21, 20-25, 25-14, 18-25, 15-10. With the win, GU moves to 2-0 on the year and 1-0 in the HAAC. Peru State fell to 2-4 overall and 0-1 in the conference.
The Bobcats actually had leads in the first set before the Yellowjackets rallied to take the win. In the second set, it was back and forth throughout before PSC pulled away for the win. The third set was all Graceland as the Bobcats never really got on track. The fourth set was another close one before the 'Cats pulled away near the end to force the game to go to the fifth and deciding set. Graceland got on the board first in the last set and PSC never tied or led in the set.
Jessie Clark (Omaha) led the Bobcats with 18 kills with a .324 hitting percentage. Clark also had one solo block.
Maddy Lister (North Platte) and
Tara Carstens (Lincoln) each added seven kills. Carstens added one solo block.
Carly Morehead (Fairbury) had six kills, two solo blocks, and one service ace while
Rachel Rippe (Johnson) added five kills and four block assists.
Amanda Gilreath (Omaha) and
Courtney Jurek (Bellevue) had 16 and 13 assists respectively. Jurek added one ace serve.
Defensively, three different Bobcats were in double digits with digs.
Emily Maresh (Central City) led the team with 21 digs and had a team-high five service aces.
Kelsey Monahan (Atkinson) and
Becky Boshart (Wood River) added 14 and 11 digs respectively.
Peru State is back in action on Friday night as they travel to the College of St. Mary (CSM) in Omaha. At 4 p.m., the Bobcats will take on the Flames from CSM and will follow with a game against Briar Cliff University at approximately 5:30 p.m. Next Tuesday, Sept. 13, the 'Cats host MidAmerica Nazarene University in HAAC play beginning at 7 p.m.
