Bobcat Volleyball Team Falls at York College

(Peru, Neb.) – Five set games have almost become the norm for the Peru State College (PSC) Bobcat volleyball team. However, in the four games that the Bobcats have been in, unfortunately, for the PSC team, they have dropped the game in the fifth and deciding set.

When facing the former Midlands Collegiate Athletic Conference (MCAC) foe, the York College Panthers, on Tuesday night, the 'Cats squandered a two games to none lead and lost. York took the game by the scores of 15-25, 21-25, 25-18, 25-14, 18-16. York improved to 9-7 overall while the Bobcats fall to 2-9 having lost their seventh straight contest. It was the Panthers' fourth straight win.

Bobcat seniors Maddy Lister (North Platte) and Carly Morehead (Fairbury) led the PSC attack with 17 and 14 kills respectively. Lister added one solo block, four block assists, and two digs. Morehead hit a respectable .333 and had one solo block, six block assists, four digs, and one service ace.

Tara Carstens (Lincoln) contributed seven kills and one solo block while Nyahok Duop (Des Moines, Iowa) and Carrie Lierz (Holton, Kan.) each added five kills. Both had two block assists while Lierz also added two digs.

Courtney Jurek (Bellevue) and Amanda Gilreath (Omaha) respectively put up 26 and 17 assists. Jurek added two service aces and nine digs while Gilreath had five digs.

Emily Maresh (Central City) led the defensive efforts as she had 24 digs against the Panther attack. Maresh also had one of the team's five service aces. Kelsey Monahan (Atkinson) added 15 digs and a service ace to the Bobcats' totals.

Peru State will look to stop their losing streak this weekend when they travel to compete in the St. Ambrose Tournament in Davenport, Iowa. On Friday, the Bobcats will take on Roosevelt (Ill.) University at 6 p.m. and then face Kansas Wesleyan University at 8 p.m. The next day, PSC will take on the hosts at 9 a.m. and follow with a game against Viterbo (Wis.) University.

The Bobcats will be back at home on Saturday, Oct. 1, to host HAAC foe Missouri Valley College in a 2 p.m. contest in the Al Wheeler Activity Center.
