2011-2012 Bobcat Cheerleaders Named

(Peru, Neb.) – Twelve young women have been selected to serve as Peru State College (PSC) Bobcat cheerleaders for the 2011-2012 school year according to Jari Dunekacke, Bobcat cheer advisor coach, and Chelsea Allgood, assistant cheer coach.

Four of the 12 will be returners from the 2010-2011 squad.  Those returning will be Ember Paulson, a sophomore from Palmyra; Shelby Jones, a sophomore from Johnson; Hanna Leonard, a sophomore from Omaha; and Nakita Baird, a freshman from Tecumseh.  Jones will be the captain of the squad for the upcoming year.

Those new to next year's squad will be: Tiffany Streator, a current sophomore at PSC from Independence, Mo.;  Valerie Sievers, a current freshman at PSC from Walnut, Iowa; and Sara Mencl from Beatrice; Allyson Bennett from Nebraska City;Kailey Peterson from Bellevue (West HS)Jessica Merrill from Murray (Conestoga HS);Felicia Schlicker from Lincoln (Lincoln HS); and Michaela Wirtz from Syracuse (Syracuse HS).

The new cheerleaders had been participating in open gyms to prepare for the judging which was held Sunday, April 10.   The judges included Elaine Hanson, the first lady of Peru State and a former cheerleader; Darolyn Seay, current education assistant professor and cheerleader and gymnastics coach in Oklahoma; and former Bobcat cheerleader Heather (Hurst) Diekmann of Shenandoah, Iowa.
