For the second time in five years, Joan Albury returned a familiar position with Peru State as she was named the interim head women’s basketball coach on January 1, 2018.
Previously, Albury served in that position for the 2013-14 and then was named the head coach for the 2014-15 season before moving to Florida. In those two seasons, the Bobcats went 18-43 overall, with improvement seen in the second year.
Upon her family’s return to the area, Albury served one semester as the College’s interim head volleyball coach where she led the team to a 32-9 mark – one of the best in recent years.
Prior to being named as the current interim head coach, Albury was a math instructor for the Saint Albert school in Council Bluffs, Iowa.
Albury's head high school basketball coaching experience included seven years with stops at Morgan County (Ky.) HS, McKenzie (Tenn.) HS, Holmes County (Fla.) HS, and Bethlehem (Fla.) HS. In addition, Albury spent two years as an assistant basketball coach at Crockett Co. (Tenn.) HS and Sonoraville (Ga.) HS. Also, Albury was a head high school softball coach for five years at Morgan County HS and Bethlehem HS.
At the collegiate level, Albury's served as an assistant basketball coach at Pikeville (Ky.) College. In addition, Albury spent eight seasons as the head volleyball coach at Union College and Lambuth University and five seasons as the head softball coach at Pikeville and Lambuth. Albury also was an assistant volleyball coach at the University of Rio Grande in Ohio.
Albury was the Mid-South Conference Softball Coach of the Year in 1998 and 1999. Also, Albury is second in total volleyball coaching victories at Union College.
Albury played both basketball and softball at Union College and was a three-year starter and letter winner in each. During her senior basketball season, Albury was the district's leading three-point shooter. Albury graduated Union in 1988 with a bachelor of science in math education. In 1991, Albury completed her master of arts in math education at Morehead State (Ky.) University.
