Bobcat athletic director Steve Schneider announced on Monday that Peru State volleyball player Nadja Janjevic (Podgorica, Montenegro) and football player Collin Weingaertner (Omaha) were selected as the September Athletes of the Month. They were picked based on their athletic efforts during the month of September.
Weingaertner was named the Heart of America Athletic Conference’s Defensive Player of the Week also on September 26 after the ‘Cats toppled the then-23rd-ranked MidAmerica Nazarene (Kan.) Pioneers. The 5-10, 200 pound linebacker recorded 16 total tackles – 11 of which were solo. In addition, he added two tackles for losses of six yards.
Presently, Weingaertner is second on the Bobcat team with 30 total tackles with 16 being solo. Also, he has three tackles for losses of seven yards.
Schneider commented, “Nadja and Collin both have had good starts to their seasons and have helped their respective teams to get off to good starts this fall.”
