Peru State College Athletics

Bobcat athletic director Steve Schneider announced on Friday that Peru State volleyball player Cristina Viera (Montevideo, Uruguay) and football player Stephen Bowers (LaVista) were selected as the August Athletes of the Month. They were picked based on their play during the first weeks of competition.
 
Bowers was named the Heart of America Athletic Conference’s Defensive Player of the Week after the ‘Cats took care of Central Methodist last Saturday 39-14. Bowers, a defensive lineman, recorded six total tackles – three of which were solo. He led the team with 2.5 tackles for losses of 8.5 yards. In addition, he recorded 1.5 sacks.
 
Schneider commented, “Cristina and Stephen both have had good starts to their seasons and have helped their respective teams to get off to nice starts.”
