Peru State athletic director Wayne Albury recognized Taylor Finke (Battle Creek) and Isaac Simpson (Papillion) as the Bobcat student-athletes of the month for July.
Finke and Simpson were recently recognized as two of the top student-athletes in the Heart of America Athletic Conference (Heart) by winning conference awards.
A member of the women’s golf team for the past three years, Finke won the A.O. Duer Female award for the Heart. The Duer award is to recognize an outstanding junior student-athlete who has a minimum cumulative grade point average of at least 3.75.
Simpson, a two-year member of the men’s basketball team, earned the conference’s Emil S. Liston award. The Liston honor goes to a player who is at least a junior and has a minimum 3.5 cumulative grade point average.
Besides scholarship, both awards are also based on character and playing ability.
Both were named recently as Heart of America Athletic Conference Scholar-Athletes and will also be named as Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athletes later this summer.
Albury stated, “For the second year in a row, Peru State took two of the five top student-athlete honors in the Heart. Taylor and Isaac are both excellent student-athletes and fine representatives of the College and their respective teams.”
