Peru State basketball players Giovanna Silva (Bellevue) and KeShawn Wilson (Omaha) have been identified as the Bobcat January Athletes of the Month by athletic director Wayne Albury.
The players were selected by the athletic director as they both were key contributors to their respective teams during January.
Wilson, a senior, has helped his team win seven games against two close losses in the month of January while averaging 14.6 points over that stretch. Against William Penn (Iowa), Wilson moved himself into second in the single-game three-point field goals made as he had nine treys in the win over the Statesmen.
Currently, Wilson is averaging 11.8 points on the season and is second on the team with 57 total assists.
Nationally, Wilson is listed in four Top 50 individual rankings. His top rankings include: 27th in three-point field goal percentage (0.454), 43rd in three-point field goals made per game (2.455), 43rd in total three-point field goals made (54), and 49th in assist/turnover ratio (2.111).
In conference rankings, Wilson is fifth in three-point field goal percentage, ninth in assist/turnover ratio, tenth in three-point field goals made per game, tenth in total three-point field goals made, and 17th in assists per game (2.59).
“Both Giovanna and KeShawn have played big parts in how their teams have played in January,” noted Albury. Continuing, he added, “They both have had some very good performances during the month.”
