Peru State basketball players Giovanna Silva (Bellevue) and KeShawn Wilson (Omaha) have been identified as the Bobcat January Athletes of the Month by athletic director Wayne Albury.
The players were selected by the athletic director as they both were key contributors to their respective teams during January.
A junior, Silva is the team’s second-leading scorer averaging 11.4 points per game and is also the team’s second leading rebounder pulling down an average of 8.8 boards per contest.
Nationally, Silva is ranked in four different categories at this point of the season – 26th in total rebounds (194), 29th in offensive rebounds per game (3.182), 29th in total rebounds per game (8.818), and 35th in defensive rebounds per game (5.636).
In the Heart, Silva is fifth in total rebounds per game, fifth in total rebounds, tied for sixth in double-doubles (6), seventh in offensive rebounds per game, 13th in steals per game (1.82), tied for 14th in total steals (40), 16th in free throw percentage (0.621), and 20th in blocks per game (0.64).
For the month of January, Silva averaged 12.6 points per game and grabbed 10.9 rebounds per contest.
“Both Giovanna and KeShawn have played big parts in how their teams have played in January,” noted Albury. Continuing, he added, “They both have had some very good performances during the month.”
