Bobcat volleyball player Claire Cudney (Marysville, Kan.) and football player John Brady (Hickman) were named Tuesday by Peru State athletic director Wayne Albury as the September Bobcat Athletes of the Month. Cudney and Brady were selected by the athletic director as they both earned Heart of America Athletic Conference (Heart) honors for their efforts in the month of September.
On Oct. 1, Brady was named the Heart’s Special Teams Player of the Week for his efforts in Peru State’s road 24-19 win over MidAmerica Nazarene in Olathe, Kan. In the game, Brady handled all of the kicking duties for the ‘Cats, something pretty uncommon in today’s collegiate football.
Brady hit a 23-yard field goal and made all three of his point-after attempts. But, more importantly, it was Brady’s punting that was key to the win. On two of his six punts, which averaged 36.8 yards per try, he pinned the Pioneers on their four-yard line. After both of these punts, Peru State was able to score off of good defensive and/or special teams play.
This was the second time Cudney and Brady had been named as a Bobcat Athlete of the Month – both earning the recognition during the 2017-18 year.
Albury stated, “Both Claire’s and John’s efforts during the last couple of weeks have helped lead their respective teams to several victories. Therefore, they are good choices as the September Athletes of the Month.”
