Peru State College Athletics

Bobcat cross country runner Julia Zurek (Louisville) and football player Stephen Bowers (La Vista) were recently named by Peru State athletic director Wayne Albury as the August Bobcat Athletes of the Month. They were selected by Albury for the honor based on their recent starts to their respective sport seasons.
 
Zurek was the top runner for the Peru State cross country team when it opened its 2018 season in the Bearcat Invite hosted by Northwest Missouri State in Maryville, Mo., on the last day of August. In the 5K run, Zurek finished 19^th in a time of 24:33.22. Her time was nearly two minutes faster than the time she ran in 2017.
 
A kinesiology major, Zurek is a junior and is also a member of the Student Athlete Advisory Council (SAAC).

In announcing his August selections, Albury noted “Julia and Stephen both had good efforts in their respective opening events and I look forward to them doing similar things throughout the fall.”
