(Peru, Neb.) – Bobcat women’s basketball player Claire Cudney (Marysville, Kan.) and Bobcat men’s basketball senior Quantice Hunter (Chicago) were recently named by Peru State interim athletic director Steve Schneider as the February Bobcat Athletes of the Month. Cudney and Hunter were identified by Schneider for the honor based on their recent athletic accomplishments for their respective teams.
Hunter and his Bobcat teammates recently learned they would be participating in the NAIA Division 1 Men’s Basketball National Tournament. They will face Master’s (Calif.) at 8:15 Wednesday night.
Earlier in the season, Hunter scored his 1,000th point against Clarke with 3:31 left in the game. This is quite an accomplishment having played in just two seasons in a Bobcat uniform. Hunter is the leading scorer for the Bobcats averaging 22.27 points per game and also leads the team with 2.30 steals per contest.
Hunter is listed in the following NAIA Top 50 Individual categories: second in total scoring (735), fourth in total steals (76), fourth in points per game (22.273), seventh in steals per game (2.303), and 38th in total three-point field goals made (74). For his efforts Hunter was named to the Heart All-Conference First Team.
In announcing his February selections, Schneider noted “With their efforts on the court, Claire and Quantice are logical choices for the February Peru State Athletes of the Month.”
