(Peru, Neb.) – Although the team's fourth place finish in the Heart of America Athletic Conference (HAAC) Tournament was not as good as last year's second place finish, there still was a shining moment at the tournament. Senior golf captain
Jordan Schaardt (Humboldt) was crowned the HAAC medalist after defeating a foe from Baker in a sudden death playoff that took three holes.
By winning the HAAC Championship individual title, Schaardt received an automatic bid to play in the NAIA National Championship held at Wilderness Ridge golf course in Lincoln, Nebraska. Schaardt was pleased with her championship and said, “It was such a rush to win – that is one thing for sure!”
Schaardt finished in a tie for 99
th in the national tournament having a three-day total of 254.
The Bobcats had four individuals who placed in the top 26 in the HAAC championship. Schaardt finished first with a two-day total of 183. Following her was
Courtney Musgrave (Omaha), who shot a 190 which was good for a tenth place finish. With a 193,
Katie Potter (Omaha) tied for 16
th place. Finishing in a tie for 26
th with a 221 was
Jacey Stoner (Alda).
Following the HAAC championship tournament, two Bobcat golfers were tabbed as HAAC All-Conference selections. Schaardt and Musgrave were the two golfers who received honors. For both, this was their second year in a row receiving all-conference honors. In addition, Schaardt was named to the all-tournament team as well.
This season, the 'Cats had five golfers who participated in matches. They were Schaardt, Musgrave, Potter, Stoner, and
Elizabeth Huls (Beatrice). Schaardt's best finish this year was the first place finish she had at the HAAC championship and her best score on 18 was an 82 at the Nebraska Wesleyan Spring Invite. Musgrave's best finish was tenth at the HAAC championship, and her lowest score on 18 was an 87 shot at the Nebraska Wesleyan Spring Invite. A 94 was Potter's best score of the year at the Nebraska Wesleyan Spring Invite, and her best finish of the year was 14
th in the Baker Invitational. Stoner's best score and finish this year was a 96 good for 20
th in the Graceland Invite. A 104 and 22
nd place finish in the Graceland Invite were Huls' best stats this year.
With the conclusion of the season, two golfers received academic recognition as well. Both Schaardt and Potter were selected as Capital One Academic All-District 6 First Team. Their selection to the all-district team allowed Schaardt and Potter to be in consideration for All-America honors. Recently, it was announced that Schaardt was named as a 2013 Capital One Academic All-America First Team selection while Potter earned third team honors. In addition, both were chosen as Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athletes.
