Peru State College Athletics

Pick a sport-Doug “Hoot” Gibson was bound to excel. The Falls City, Neb.., native first played basketball and starred in track at the University of Nebraska, but he missed football and transferred to Peru State for the chance to participate in all three. Gibson didn’t just participate, the running back was All- State and honorable mention All-American in football; helped the basketball team to a 20-win season his senior year; and set several school and conference track records before graduating in 1958.
