Darrel Mudra, known as “Dr. Victory” throughout most athletic circles, achieved enormous success coaching college football after graduating from Peru in 1951. A worthy fullback himself and the 1950 Bobcats’ leading scorer, Mudra turned numerous losing programs into winners during his coaching career, mostly on the NCAA Division I and II levels. In 26 seasons, Mudra’s teams posted over twice as many wins as losses (200-81-4) and captured two national championships. He retired from his last stint – Northern Iowa – as one of the country’s most respected gridiron coaches.
