Bobcat athletic director Steve Schneider recently announced that Peru State volleyball player Yorgelys Jaspe (San Carlos, Venezuela) and football player Brandon Fletcher (Maxwell) were selected as the October Athletes of the Month. They were picked based on their athletic efforts during the past month.
Jaspe was named the Heart of America Athletic Conference (Heart) Attacker of the Week on Halloween. The 5-10 junior earned her first recognition for her efforts in the Bobcats’ senior night sweep of Missouri Valley. Jaspe had 13 kills in 23 swings with no attacking errors. She hit .565 in the match which is an outstanding hitting percentage. In addition, she added she digs in the match.
Currently, Jaspe is 27th in the NAIA Top 50 individual rankings with 419 total kills. In the Heart, Jaspe is fourth in total kills (419), eighth in kills per set (2.9), tied for 13th in hitting percentage (.228), and 18th in total digs (364).
Schneider commented, “Yorgelys has been one of the main parts for the successful volleyball team and Brandon has stepped up as a senior and is among the leaders on the Bobcat defense. Congratulations to both of them on their selections as October athletes of the month.”
